DIY My New Jewelry Holder

So my latest craft (like I finished it today), a jewelry holder. This is was my finished product.

I think it turned out pretty good. If you know me, you know I don't wear jewelry often (except earrings). I think it may be because I don't see it on a daily basis (my jewelry was stored under my sink). So I hope by hanging it up where I can see it I will wear it more often. It was really easy to make. I bought I everything I needed at Hobby Lobby and Lowe's.

I forgot to take a picture before I painted it and added it some of the hooks. I found it on the wood aisle in Hobby Lobby. It costs $3.99. I painted it to match my bathroom. I added the hooks, which I also got at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 (I bought two packs to have enough).

I bought dowel rods at Hobby Lobby for .59 each. For the project I only needed 2. I bought 5/8'' but I should have went down a size like 1/2". I cut the rods into thirds about 11'' to fit into the frame (which is why I had to go to Lowe's... to buy a hacksaw). I hotglued white felt to the rods and wraped the felt around the rod, then I hotglued the end of the felt on to the wraped felt

I hotglued the felted rods into the frame to keep them in.
The finished product!

I like it so far!

The Shower crafts

So I was suppose to post the rest of the pictures from Steph's shower a WHILE back. Well I'm finally getting a round to it!

As I said on my first post, I made candles as favors. Here's one after was set, I think they turned out well.

Katy made these adorable tags to put on the handles to remind the girls where the candle came from.

We placed the candles beside the cake. Katy and I made the cake. I think it turned out just beautiful... if you can't tell I was suppose to be Belle's Ballroom dress. We made the dress out of marshmellow foundant from a recipe I found on pinterest.

You can't have a Beauty and the Beast shower without the Beast's rose. I bought a set of cheap roses and some foam board from the Dollar Tree and the vase from Walmart. I tied some fishing line to the rose's stem and hot glued the other end of the fishing line to the bottom (well in this case the top) of the vase. I had to get Erica to help me because her hand was smaller. I took a top from one of Erica's empty Coke bottles and painted it gold. I did my best to cut a circle out of the foam and wrapped it in a piece of brown paper.

I made this cute sign for the front door of the apartment to welcome everyone to the shower. I printed out the letters off of the computer (Yes that is Disney font). I cut the letters out then traced the letters on to the back of yellow glittery scrapbook paper. It took a lot of time but I think it turned out cute, so that's all that matters.

Here's the chandelier that I made hanging up in the dining room area. (Sadly the lighting wasn't very good in the picture)

As I said in my first post, I was going to have all the characters at the shower. Here's a picture of them all together. I found the clock and candle holder on ebay and bought the tea cup when I bought the tea cups for the candles. When I bought the clock I thought it was bigger but I couldn't find another one in time so I used it any way. I added construction paper to the clock to make it look more like Cogsworth. I just painted the cup to make it look as much like Chip as I could. I finished up Mrs. Potts by painting the bottom of the teapot. I didn't do anything to the candle holder. I should have painted it gold/yellow but I ran out of time.

Over all I think the shower turned out well and Steph really enjoyed it. You tell by the smile on her face. :-)

Shower prep... part 1

Since I love crafting, baking and cooking, I decided I wanted to blog about it all! To start my blog, I decided I would talk about what I'm currently working... shower decorations

So my lovely friend, Stephanie, is getting married and I'm helping with her lingerie shower because what girl can get married without a lingerie shower! :-) The wonderful Matron of Honor, Katy May, choose a theme that fits Steph perfectly, Beauty and the Beast! I began to think about all the decorations you need for the perfect Beauty and the Beast themed shower. Of course you have to have the Rose in the jar, you need the characters (Lumeire, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip), a chandelier, and books! Well I started with Mrs. Potts. Since its a shower, I decided I didn't want an actual face on the pot. I found a ceramic tea pot at Michael's for like $4.99 but I got it cheaper because my sister had a Michael's coupon. Though I'm not finished, I think you can tell it's Mrs. Potts. I'm pretty proud of it! :-)

After working on Mrs. Potts, I decided I'd work on a chandelier. This one is my inspiration. Now by no means did I think I could make something like this but... you know it inspired me!

Here's the pics of mine in progress:

I found the bottom bowl thing at Salvation Army for 1.99 and the top and middle rings at Hobby Lobby for 1.27 and 1.67. I bought the small pearl beads for 5.99 (YAY for 40% coupon) and the deco tubing ribbon  for 5.99 at Hobby Lobby. I bought silver and gold bead necklaces at Party City (1.99 for an 8 pack), cut and hot glued them into a strand. Then I bought the forks and spoons at Walmart for .97 per pack!
Here's the final product:

After the shower, I'm planning on removing the gold beads and silverware and rehang it in the apartment's dining room!

NOW today I began working on the party favors... teacup candles! I bought the teacups from several different thrift stores (Goodwill, America's Thrift Store, Salvation Army and Project Safe Thrift store). The prices ranged from .10 to .55. I found a website that sells candle making stuff (candlescience.com). Of course the candles has to be yellow and smell like roses... so that's what I made. This is the first time I made candles! I followed the directions on the Candle Science website (they were super easy to follow!) and so far they look good! Here's a picture of them right after I poured them:

I'll definitely post pictures of them tomorrow once they are totally set!

That's all for now!
YAY for craftiness!
